Follow these steps to ride Suffolk County Transit:

Learning the Routes

Review the Suffolk County Transit system maps, available as a PDF or as an interactive map.

You can also use our trip planner to get step by step instructions from your origin to your destination, including when to leave.

Planning Your Trip

Once you know your route, review the schedule to learn when SCT can take you where you want to go.

Most routes run half hourly on weekdays until 6pm. After 6pm and on weekends, service is hourly on all routes.

When transferring at a Timed Transfer location, multiple routes will come together, hold for a few minutes, then leave at the same time. These are marked on maps and schedules with a clock.

Getting on Board

Get to your bus stop at least five minutes before the scheduled departure time. Stops are marked with the SCT logo and will state which routes stop there, as well as the final destination of the trip.

Arrival information is available on apps like Transit, Google Maps, Moovit and Apple Maps. Visit our Apps page to learn more.

When the bus arrives, check that the route and the destination on top match the routes you planned. Make sure to signal to the driver that you want them to stop.

Paying Your Fare

A regular full fare is $2.25 one way or $2.50 with a transfer. If your trip requires you to change buses, ask for a transfer before paying. Discounts are available for youth, students, seniors, persons with disabilities, and veterans.

You can also pay with the Suffolk FastFare app. Click here for Google Play link, and click here for Apple App Store link.

On Board

When you see or hear your stop coming up, pull the stop cord, press the stop tape, or press the stop button to let the driver know to stop. If the bus is not equipped with a stop cord, tape or button, please inform the driver about the approaching stop.

When getting off the bus, exit through the rear doors if possible.
